Our story

Behind every meal is a love story, a shared dream, and an unshakeable faith that God provides.

Why “Kokoy”?

Kokoy was our word — mine and my wife's. Short for kingkoy, which means monkeys in Filipino. It started because we'd spend hours every day talking, laughing until our stomachs hurt, being silly, being us. Instead of “sweetheart” or “darling,” we called each other Kokoy. It was ours.

She went home to be with the Lord in 2023. The laughter stopped, but the dreams we shared didn't. We always talked about one day going to the Philippines together — to Cebu, where so many children go hungry every single day — and doing something about it. Not someday. For real.

Helping Hungry Hearts is that dream coming alive. Every sandwich made with care, every child who sits down to a warm meal, every scholarship that opens a door to a future — we do it together. Her love is in every meal. Her laughter echoes in every child's smile.

I named this kokoy.org because this work carries her spirit — her warmth, her joy, her heart for people who have nothing. And our shared faith that God provides. Jireh — the name of the God who sees the need and meets it. He will provide. Through you. Through us. Together.

I ask this in Jesus' name.

“The Lord will provide.”

— Genesis 22:14

Statement of faith

Helping Hungry Hearts is a Christian ministry rooted in the belief that every human being — regardless of background, religion, or circumstance — is made in the image of God and deserves dignity, nourishment, and hope.

We believe in one God, eternally existing in three persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Saviour, and that the Gospel calls us to love our neighbours in practical, tangible ways.

We serve all children regardless of faith. No child is required to pray, profess, or perform to receive a meal. We simply feed, because Christ calls us to.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink.” — Matthew 25:35

What is “Jireh”?

Jireh (יִרְאֶה) is Hebrew for “He will provide.” It comes from Genesis 22:14, when Abraham named the place where God provided a ram as a sacrifice: “The Lord Will Provide.”

The name behind this work reflects our core belief: God sees the hungry, the forgotten, and the hopeless — and He provides through people willing to act.

When you donate to kokoy.org, you become part of that provision. You are the hands through which Jireh feeds a child today and educates a leader tomorrow.

Who is behind this?

Helping Hungry Hearts is backed by a registered Alberta corporation based in Calgary, Canada, which handles legal compliance and charitable accountability.

The parent organization receives donations and ensures everything meets Canadian corporate law and charitable standards. Helping Hungry Hearts is the operational program through which we carry out our feeding and scholarship mission in the Philippines.

Jireh One Inc. separately funds all operational costs — including staff, technology, payment processing, and administration. This means 100% of donor contributions go directly to purchasing food and delivering meals to children.
